Newborn 101

Newborn 101 is a class for all expectant parents.  During this hour, you will join Dr. Elizabeth Milliron, MD, IBCLC, Medical Director of the Breastfeeding Center of Charleston to learn everything you will need to know about the first few weeks after your baby has arrived.  If you have questions of what to expect or what you will need to welcome home baby this class is for you.  Newborn 101 will be offered the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 5:30pm and is free of charge.  This class is for all expectant parents.

Prenatal Breastfeeding

If you are interested in Breastfeeding this class is for you.  A certified lactation consultant from the Breastfeeding Center of Charleston will guide you through this 1.5-hour class to learn the secrets to early success and how to best prepare for Breastfeeding.  Many topics will be discussed and there will be time for questions and answers.  We welcome any expectant parents with an interest in Breastfeeding to this class.  Prenatal Breastfeeding will be offered the 4th Tuesday of the month at 5 pm and is free of charge. This class is for expectant parents.

Your Body After Baby

Your Body After Baby is a one hour class designed to help new, expectant, or experienced mothers understand the changes that occur in her body post-partum.  Caitlin McCurdy-Robinson, PT, DPT, APTA, CAPP-OB Certified, Physical Therapist of Private Therapy Services will cover issues associated with abdominal and pelvic floor muscle weakness, hormone changes, and the strains of care-giving for your new baby.  Your Body after Baby is open to new, expectant, and experienced mothers and is free of charge.

Mommy and Me Pilates

Mommy and Me Pilates Stretch Class will provide mommy and baby some one on one time together to discover movement while bonding.  This class is designed to help mommy connect with her postpartum body while also connecting with her baby.  Alli Shuttleworth will instruct this class which will begin as a series of stretches and following with some basic core Pilates exercise.  It is designed for the postpartum body and will move at a slower pace.  This class is for mommy and baby (2-6 months) and if you are blessed with multiples please bring an adult partner for each baby.  Please bring a yoga mat and a baby carrier if you have one.  This 30-minute class will be free of charge and will be offered every Tuesday morning at 9:30 am.

The Mother's Circle

The Mother's Circle is a time set aside for mothers of newborns to infants up to 6 months of age to meet with other mothers and a Breastfeeding Center of Charleston Certified Lactation Consultant to discuss topics relevant to you and your baby.  Topics will be directed by the group in attendance and facilitated by the lactation consultant.  We expect topics to include feeding, sleeping, nursing, the highs and the lows of breastfeeding and so much more.  Our Lactation consultant will facilitate the conversation, but this is a time to come together with other mothers to bond over the new joys of parenting.  Depending on the topics we expect Beyond Basics will be a time to enjoy conversation for 1-1.5 hours.  Feel free to bring your baby and even your lunch.  The Mother's Circle is free of charge and will be offered the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 11 am.

Breastfeeding Nutrition

If you are a new or expectant mother, nutrition is important.  In this class we will discuss nutrition, dieting, and exercising while breastfeeding. We encourage pre-and post-natal mothers and their support person to attend.

Real Life is Beautiful: Family and Newborn Photography

Learn to capture the beautiful and unique moments happening daily with a few tips and techniques to get clear and composed images even with your phone.  Merideth Garrigan, of A Spot In Time Photography, will cover a few basic technical tips concerning natural lighting, camera or video choices, and file size of images.  During this 45-minute class, we will also give you the most important points to ensure a smooth “session” with your baby and family.  Parents and caregivers are invited and we welcome your infants up to 6 months of age.

Starting Solids

This class will explain introducing solid foods to your baby, including discussion on the different methods for feeding your baby. Join us for a fun, interactive introduction to solid foods.  We invite caregivers and children age 4 months and older to this class.
